More than a decade ago, Brittany Corp.—the upscale brand of Villar-owned Vista Land and Lifescapes Inc.—started thinking about bringing the luxurious Switzerland living to the country. After all the necessary developments were done and all the essential elements were put into place, a community reminiscent of the villages along the Alps can finally be reached by just an hour drive from Manila. Crosswinds, a sprawling 100-hectare village nestled in the rolling hills of Tagaytay has successfully recreated the allure of a Swiss community with its chalet-inspired homes and enclaves, 20,000 imposing yet elegant Australian pine trees cascading through slopes, and the pleasant cold climate known to the city. The mountainous and foggy backdrop set against the prime development further provides a charming appeal to the picturesque residential-cum-luxury resort complex. According to Crosswinds’ site officer Brian Smith Bautista, Brittany was first developed in 1996, but it was not until 2002 that they decided to pattern it after the quaint and cozy living spaces in Switzerland. “The inspiration came from former Sen. Manny Villar since the area is literally rolling hills and mountainous, plus, the cold climate in Tagaytay evokes the feeling of living near the Swiss Alps,” relates Bautista.
