More than half of 45 million survivors will never tell a soul. Of the half that tells, most of them will not be supported in their healing. Some will simply not be believed. Some will be believed and told to just get over it. Some will be believed and then blamed for the abuse. Some will be believed and directly requested to keep quiet to support the family. Rarely is the violator even admonished for his or her actions, much less brought to justice. So we are left to our own internal mechanisms to sort through the trauma. But the distorted realities about ourselves and the world makes is nearly impossible to heal alone. So Talking Trees is about supporting survivors with knowledge, affirmation and encouragement to heal, because we all deserve that. Now and again it is important for me, Rosenna Bakari, to say thank you all for helping me to create a path of healing that any survivor can walk and for shinning a beacon of light for the path to be found.
