More thoughts on humility . . . Its not the usual me for taking 3 days pause from writing. I actually convinced myself to take a break after the loss of my football team, the SF 49ers from the Seattle Seahawks team last Sunday. I guess I was affected mentally for losing my motivation to write. The San Francisco sports teams are so used in winning, always want to be on top. Then again, just as that old familiar phrase that we hear during the Olympic games: Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sport… the thrill of victory… and the agony of defeat… the human drama of athletic competition… Stanely Ralph Ross What really comes in mind in losing whatever sports it may be is about being hunble. The essay below will just touch you to pracitice humility always . . . Yes, there is strength in humility . . Arrogance is a sure sign of weakness and ineffectiveness. When you think you know it all, you prevent yourself from learning new and valuable things. When you spend all your time and energy boasting about yourself, there’s no time remaining for true achievement. When you think you’re more important than others, you quickly lose the respect of everyone. Genuine humility is an undeniable sign of true strength and confidence. When you let go of the need to impress others, that’s when you begin to be truly impressive. Live, speak and act with humility, and your efforts will be vastly more effective. There will be no time or energy wasted on propping up your own ego, and you can get many valuable things accomplished. Humility brings you respect and fosters mutual understanding. Imagine what a positive difference that can make in your life and your world. When your life is filled with true strength and genuine richness, you have no need to boast. Live with humility, and life will be full indeed. Here is a thread of humility quotes that will lift you higher . . . “The need for devotion to something outside ourselves is even more profound than the need for companionship. If we are not to go to pieces or wither away, we must have some purpose in life; for no man can live for himself alone.” Ross Parmenter Anthropologist “Every now and again take a good look at something not made with hands: a mountain, a star, the turn of a stream. There will come to you wisdom and patience and solace and, above all, the assurance that you are not alone in the world.” Sidney Lovett Minister “Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility.” Saint Augustine “Do you wish to be great? Then begin by being. Do you desire to construct a vast and lofty fabric? Think first about the foundations of humility. The higher your structure is to be, the deeper must be its foundation.” Augustine of Hippo “Praise can be your most valuable asset as long as you dont aim it at yourself.” Orlando A. Battista “He stands erect by bending over the fallen. He rises by lifting others.” Robert G. Ingersoll “An error doesnt become a mistake until you refuse to correct it.” Orlando A. Battista If you may, when you feel a little down and no can apppease you, think of that beautiful song of the 60s by Chicago . . . Everybody needs a little time away Everybody needs a little time away I heard her say From each other Even lovers need a holiday Far away From each other Hold me now Its hard for me to say Im sorry I just want you to stay After all that weve been through I will make it up to you I promise to And after all thats been said and done Youre just the part of me I cant let go Couldnt stand to be kept away Just for the day From your body Wouldnt wanna be swept away Far away From the one that I love Hold me now Its hard for me to say Im sorry I just want you to know Hold me now I really want to tell you Im sorry I could never let you go After all that weve been through I will make it up to you I promise to And after all thats been said and done Youre just the part of me I cant let go After all that weve been through I will make it up to you I promise to Youre gonna be the lucky one When we get there gonna jump in the air No onell see us cause theres nobody there After all, you know we really dont care Hold on, Im gonna take you there We all need a little time away when the world is down on you.
