Moreover He said to me, “Son of man, eat what you find; eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.” 2 So I opened my mouth, and He caused me to eat that scroll. 3 And He said to me, “Son of man, feed your belly, and fill your stomach with this scroll that I give you.” So I ate, and it was in my mouth like honey in sweetness. 4 Then He said to me: “Son of man, go to the house of Israel and speak with My words to them. (Ezekiel 3:1-4) Like Isaiah and Jeremiah, this scripture captures Ezekiels symbolic introduction to the prophetic office. The instruction to eat the scroll is a reminder about the importance of ingesting Gods word first for ourselves. We must eat the scroll before we speak. It is only when we consume Gods word that we can practice it and rightly share it with others. That is when we truly live what we preach. When Gods word fills our hearts and our lives, it is not difficult to share it because we are already living it. Sometimes like John in Revelation 10:8-9, Gods word may be sweet to the mouth but later become bitter to the stomach. It is still good for us because ultimately, Gods word will profit us in whatever situation we find ourselves. May you feed on Gods word, live it and share it to His glory. Youre blessed indeed!
