Morgan Gold II /Peaches The original Morgan Gold was an Arab mare - TopicsExpress

Morgan Gold II /Peaches The original Morgan Gold was an Arab mare called Honey who came to the stud in the early 90s. Ridden by the Crook girls first she then went on to great success as a Bsja pony under Angela Pettifer, now Carnes. Honey was a palomino 14h, very slight pony, lovely nature, loved to go but a safe hack at home. Very likely bred from the Arab stock introduced to the Lleyn Peninsula by the Polish gentleman that I know little about personally but have come to know through the many, many good ponies bred from his stock by locals. Honey had a colt first that we called Puzzle, by Rinogydd Daniel, come to us for breaking and producing from Trawsfynydd. His breeder Mr Robin Williams also bred many of his cobs to the Polish Mans Arabs. When Angela became too old to jump Honey I put her to Finbarr, the RID stallion standing with the Kellys on Anglesey. Finbarr had a lot of blood in him and was small for a draught. He was often used to produce worker ponies etc. Peaches is a real half and half of her parents. She has the draught head and bum, the Arab neck and legs. Surprisingly this doesnt look the mixed up mess that it should, she is a 14hand, palomino, well made, solid little pony with a lovely, lovely rhythm. As a foal very pretty, she is now handsome. Aged 21 this year she has had as full a life as Lucy. Bred initially as a broodmare, wanting the combined bloodlines in a pony size for breeding to TB types, I found I had exactly the mare I wanted with the added bonus of a great riding pony. Initially used for Pony Club by Tamsin Jessup and Siobhan Harris, Peaches took them through their tests, to Camp at Somerford, hunting, dressage etc. although a good jumper herself, Peaches was never going to be the Bsja pony that her dam was. I myself did a couple of years dedicated schooling on her, jumping and on the flat, she has loads of power and is very careful, we had her jumping tricky metre tracks and on the flat she has such lovely paces but lacks extension with her little legs. She has matured into a small, yellow Irish draught with a short neck, fantastic nature and a rock solid attitude. She will teach her rider manners without putting them in danger. As a broodmare she surpassed my expectations. Sadly with life being as complicated as it is she hasnt had the opportunities to shine as I intended. Her first foal Morrigan Palermo dotted all the is and crossed all the ts. By Relmo, the ideal small TB, he quickly displayed his superb jumping technique and class. With professional production he would have been an out and out champion. As it was, produced by ourselves with some help, he took my nervous daughter Siobhan to National Irish Draught Performance Champion 2 yrs in a row, gave her and me a couple of amazing years eventing and show jumping before being sold on and produced by Laura Healsted to be National Intermediate Pony Club Dressage Champion. Peaches next breeding opportunity was with our own Morrigan Pendragon, trakehner x Hanoverian. Too heavy and old fashioned to bring the performance bloodlines out, The offspring is Debbie Thorps much beloved Gally, 15.2 hands of beautiful, chunky, palomino best friend. Having tried her with Kilmullen Fionn previously and had nothing, we tried again. This time getting a cracking dun filly. Emily is 8 now, a cheeky, bouncy, 14 h pony very much in the Connemara type. Emily is not a first pony like her dam, her performance side shows in her jump and paces. Safe and easy out hacking she is quick and sharp, like her grand dam Honey in the arena. Lovely looking pony with striking paces and a very scopey jump, she is very short to sit on and very quick to respond needing a light but firm hand and a confident leg. Lovely friendly nature, she is a proper mix of the Connemara/Arab/draught.in She could easily make her dam proud given the opportunity now that she is ready for full time work. Peaches went back to Fionn but didnt take, she went on to Carregcoch Bleddyn instead who sired a lovely dark bay filly Eira. Peaches son Oli is 6 this year. By our own M Enigma (TB x Belgian Heartbreaker stallion) Oli is a 14.1h dun with the legs his dam missed out on. Enigma has brought out Honeys blood and jump, Oli has huge potential, big, big, careful jump. Slow maturing but looking like he is going to outshine Palermo with his less ultra sensitive nature but same huge talent. This year will be spent bringing him on ready to start BE next spring. Last but not least is Harry. By Sarry reg Arab, sire of many eventers and show jumpers, Harry is 4 now, tall and elegant, very kind and genuine, not fully mature but backed. He will start work around Xmas or after I think. 14.2h, very special. The plan had been to breed a foal before castration, to continue the Honey breeding line, practicalities play a part however, with the market as it is we decided to leave it to Eira to continue Honeys line. Sad as Sarry is no longer with us and it doesnt look as if Peaches will return to the stud but Im looking forward to producing all the ones we already have! Peaches was leased to the Brook family nearly 3 years ago for their nervous daughter Moya who has had a fantastic time with her, Peaches won a ODE last year with Elle Britton, Moya has had numerous prizes in the ring and at various events, she has been on many, many dun rides and learnt to jump. Peaches has been such a success with the family Im not allowed to have her back! She is in a fabulous home and she deserves it. Her bloodlines have continued with Emily and Eira, Emily has a son Eddie by our warmblood/TB Elliot and Eira has 2 daughters, by Enigma and Elliot. Emily and Oli will soon take on the world and show what their family is made of, followed by Eddie, Mai and Ellie.
