Morning Blessings By Julia Mitchell-Hoffman There are several places that I love to go to when I desire to either commune with my Heavenly Father; to just be silent and allow the Holy Spirit to direct my pathway and to spend time with the ones I love and hold dearest to my heart. One such place is my front porch which has room for the three of us to sit comfortably as a family and engage in conversation. Often the cats will join us for a bit until they decide to chase after prey and then they get put back in the house. I love these moments as Reggie, David and I not only love and respect each other, we like each other. There can always be heard laughter coming from our porch and each person or animal that walks past are greeted with smiles. We all feel so blessed to have a home where love is alive. Mornings have always been an exceptional time for me. I love the morning air and the quietness the morning brings. I am married to a musician who keeps late hours and often is inspired during the night to write music. This is a good thing for I tend to like to sleep nights and be up by 6am. If I dare to try to sleep in King Fred takes it upon him to make sure I wake up as he meows directly into my face, informing me that his bowl needs filled. So after I tend to him, get my coffee and put some clothes on to make myself somewhat presentable, I head to my quiet place. The wild life have come accustomed to my routine as well for when I open my front door there sitting in our front lawn are rabbits, black, gray and red squirrels, blue jays, cardinals, crows, robins, doves, sparrows and even 3 ravens! We have named the ravens – Nevermore, Evermore and Sal. The crows are Eager, Alan and Poe. We have names for most of our little critters but they are most interested in eating. They are a tad spoiled as they are fed shelled peanuts, walnuts, acorns, blue berries, blackberries, raspberries, left over 12 grain bakery bread, apples (whole and sliced), sunflower seeds, corn on the cob, critter food and left over grains. They have several baskets and a bird feeder. They have food out front and in our backyard and each area has large areas of grass and trees for them to entertain themselves and me! Like I said, a tad spoiled! They too, whine at me and the squirrels do the international sign for food and so I go back in and prepare their breakfast. They are still there when I return but scurry as I descend the steps, peeking from behind and up in the tree as I fill their baskets with all sorts of lovely treats. I head back up to the porch and once I am comfortable, they slowly come out and head toward their baskets. The slow motion last only for a few seconds and soon they are all running about, eating and arguing over who will sit in what basket. I sip my now cold coffee and smile. I love mornings. I open my book and begin to read but my attention is drawn back to watching these lovelies as they play. The male cardinal calls for his life time mate and she descends from her perch and sits next to him. Amazing how these two are forever devoted to each other. Such love! They bring me such joy and a sense of peace. I am reminded how much God takes care of these animals and that reminds me of how much God loves and likes me. I close my book and just sit back and watch, listen and breathe. I am glad God is God.
