Morning Brain Rules Tidbit....- Our Body Was Created to MOVE. Our Brain was Created to have Movement. Our 21st Century lifestyle goes completely against how our bodies were created.... SO, one of the BIG things in Brain Rules, is that if there is ONE thing and one thing only that predicts how well you will age, its movement and exercise. Successful aging can be attributed to shunning the sedentary lifestyle. Another Brain Rule..Can you undo years of NOT being active? ABSOLUTELY! A study was done with a group of elderly couch potatoes. They measured brain wave activity. Then exercised them and then measured brain activity again. Researcher found out that ALL kinds of mental abilities came back online after as little as 4 months of aerobic activity (which for wheelchair bound patients meant just doing some arm exercises and leg lifts, anything, something that got the heart pumping beyond its normal sedentary SIT position. And a last Brain Rule...how much exercise does it TAKE to benefit the brain? NOT MUCH!.. If all you do is walk normal several times a week, thats GREAT. If couch potatoes just fidget while sitting, thats some movement that starts doing great things for the brain.
