Morning Devotional || Be at Peace..... --------------------------- Dont worry about anything instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience Gods peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 I learned from a mentor years ago that to meditate doesnt mean to empty ones mind. Meditation in the Bible can be defined as thinking about something over and over again. To meditate on Gods Word means that we think about it throughout the day over and over. By doing this, we give ourselves a better chance of obeying Gods Word rather than disobeying it. From another mentor, I learned that worrying is actually a form of meditation. How is that so? When we worry, were thinking about the negative things that can happen in the future over and over again. The website Christian Post reports this to be the proper definition of worry. Researchers at the University of Idaho Counseling and Testing Center say worry is the act of continually repeating the same thinking pattern over and over. When we are worrying, we are in the midst of repetitive thinking, but it never resolves the situation – we only think it might. Key features of worry are that it is repetitive and non-productive. Worry produces and implants negative thoughts into our minds which, unless dealt with, can cause all sorts of health problems for us. It is not only unproductive but is also detrimental to our health. Aging Care shares that the following are possible health issues caused by worry: • Weakening of the immune system, making you more likely to have colds or other infections • High blood pressure • Upset stomach, ulcers and acid reflux • Anxiety • Increased rapid heart beat and heart palpitations • Panic attacks • Cardio-vascular problems • Increase in blood sugar levels • Irritable bowel problems • Backaches • Tension headaches or migraines • Sleep problems • Chronic fatigue syndrome • Respiratory problems and heavy breathing • Worsening of skin conditions, such as eczema So how do we solve this worrying problem? The Apostle Paul shares with us that we need to stop worrying about anything and instead replace it in our minds with prayer. To avoid thinking of negative things, we need to pray about our fears and worries and bring them to the Lord instead. Since we are going to be thinking about something over and over again, we might us well fill our minds with prayer. When we do this, we will know Gods peace, that which is beyond human comprehension. Fill your mind today with prayer. Keep the worries of this life away from your thoughts by bringing to the Lord all your concerns. 1 Peter 5:7 says, Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. Give those worries away and commit yourself to praying more today.
