Morning Musume performing Mikaeri Bijin, one of the 3 songs on the triple-A side single to celebrate the graduation of longest-running member and current leader Sayumi Michishige. Sayumi herself does not sing at all in this song, but rather the song is the rest of the group singing about what a great influence and wonderful senior she was. I was curious how the performance would work, since the song is about Sayumi but she does not sing. This is the first time Ive seen a performance of it, for a TV show that aired earlier today. In the performance, Sayumi appears in traditional Japanese dress and walks past everyone, then walks away from them at the end as they turn to see her, and she turns back and then smiles. A theme of the song is how the image of her turning back to say goodbye as she leaves is a moment of beauty only to be experienced once in a lifetime. So the performance ends with that kind of image. Sayu walking gracefully in the kimono is indeed very beautiful but very sad at the same time. I think this is an amazing tribute song to one of the most influential and important members of Morning of all time.
