Striving to be the best is a proof of the desire for excellence, and nothing is wrong with that. But many people, driven by an unbridled crave for significance, do whatever it takes---right and wrong---to be number 1. In the process, they sacrifice principles, valuable relationships, and often lose themselves in their pursuit. This is evil. We must understand that everyone has his own personal race to run, and hence an individualistic approach is what is needed. In this race, no one is ahead of you and no one is behind you. Your daily goal should be to run faster than you ran yesterday. John understood this, hence he was glad at the success of Jesus. John had run his own race and he ran it well. That understanding gave him a position of security to applaud Jesus. Friend, you are not competing with anyone. Whereas you should have people whose lifestyle insipire you, you must understand that you have your own race to run. God will not use someone elses performance to rate yours; He will measure your performance based on your inbuilt capacity to perform. Dont be so focused on how someone else is running his own race that you swerve off your lane. Stay focused. Stay on your lane. Run your race.
