Morning all - here is a story we wish we didnt have to share. The IPCA has found that a number of Chch Police officers broke the law and violated the human rights in their treatment of youths relating to an incident in 2012. Among the findings of the IPCA ... the manner of treatment by police to those unlawfully detained by depriving them access to basic necessities was disrespectful and degrading. It did not comply with polices obligation to treat people with humanity and respect and accordingly breached their human rights. We would like to stress that the NZ Police do a very important job & do good work in our communities, however cases like this are inexcusable. If you have been mistreated by Police, it is really important to speak up, and YouthLaw can help. We also offer community education so you know your rights with Police. #KnowYourRights nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11251699
