Most Recent TripAdvisor review: (excerpt) Bill & Carl Vancouver, BC “Lovely B&B with generous hosts” Casa La Pace is an immaculate, lovingly restored farmhouse (with excellent plumbing - rare in Europe). Pepper and Rusty are generous hosts who regaled us with useful information and delightful vignettes about the circle of nearby little towns in the beautiful Serchio Valley - and their wonderful inhabitants. Our large room overlooked the striking, medieval walled village of Ghivizzano on an adjacent hillside. Pepper took us to the medieval section of Ghivizanno where the custodian generously opened up the watch tower and gave us a fascinating personal tour. Amazingly, this lovely site only has a handful of inhabitants and is seldom visited by tourists. The beauty of our 6-night stay at Casa La Pace was that we got the slow travel experience. We had a car and we had planned to use Casa as a site to take long day trips to the more famous southern Tuscan towns - but we barely made it to Lucca and Florence. Instead we were drawn into the enchantment of the local towns particularly picturesque Barga which seemed to have just the right combination of things to do ~ inviting restaurants, balconies overflowing with roses and geraniums and a magnificent Duomo with spectacular views of the surrounding valley carpeted with lush chestnut trees and dotted with medieval, hilltop villages. This area is not yet on the major tourist routes so the reasonable price of food in restaurants is another huge bonus of being there. Everywhere we went we met relaxed fellow travellers and truly kind, respectful local people. Closing thoughts and memories of Casa La Pace include the brilliant red poppies that grow like weeds everywhere, the clouds of fireflies after dark, the rushing mountain stream outside our window and the chorus of songbirds, all of which lulled us to sleep 10 hours every night, an unheard of luxury in our rushed North American lives. Amy H Seattle, Washington “Fantastic accommodations!” Casa La Pace is a lovely place to stay while in central Italy. Its setting and renovated farmhouse are simply outstanding and its hosts - Rusty and Pepper - did everything possible to ensure our time in Ghivizzano was memorable. They offer special touches like delicious breakfasts (complete with fresh-squeezed orange juice), tours of the local sites, introductions to the towns restaurants and their owners, and pickup from the train station. Rusty was particularly helpful to me and drove me to the next village to purchase a specialty item. Their tours of Ghivizzano and Lucca were particularly interesting and fun. We highly recommend Casa La Pace if seeking accommodations in the central valley! Pathames Little Rock, AR “Best ever” This was our third visit. We had such a great time!!! Our hosts were so attentive and entertaining. Breakfast always included the freshest fruit and this trip only blood orange juice. It was squeezed for us each morning. They planned each day to maximizeour enjoyment of the culture around us!!! You cant go wrong staying here!
