Most all our ancestors emigrated from distant lands. Americans are likely as varied a group of people that can be found. Our variances include race, creed, original language, religion, philosophy, psychology, physiology and socio-economic status. So, it is no surprise that our individual family paths varied greatly before and after reaching America. Our citizens have rich heritage, spiced with flavor of many cultures. We are diverse; yet we are one. We are not just Americans. We ARE America! Our great country was built by immigrants; accordingly, I am not against LEGAL immigration. I welcome those who come legally, in good faith, desiring to be productive in this great land we call the United States of America. Here are a few suggestions for would be new citizens: 1. Pledge to come legally and join us in good faith and become one of us by immersing yourself in America. 2. Pledge to become employed so that you can proudly earn your own way. 3. Pledge to obey our laws. 4. Pledge to pay your share of the taxes required to support our society. 5. Pledge to Learn American English just like immigrants who came before you. 6. Pledge to learn our constitution. 7. Pledge to become a citizen. 8. Pledge to study our politics and pledge to vote when you are eligible. This is important! 9. We pledge to help you when you need help. But please dont demand that we offer you a lifetime of unearned benefits. 10. Pledge to be part of the solution… not the problem. 11. Pledge to teach us what you know and we pledge to teach you what we know. Together, we can be formidable. 12. Please feel free to enjoy our freedoms, our land, our country. Know with great conviction that we truly are that shining city on the hill! 13. Pledge Allegiance to the United States of America; to the flag for which it stands; one nation under God; indivisible with liberty and justice for all. 14. Pledge to exercise your freedom of religion, but don’t force others to believe as you do. 15. Pledge to live in peace, be my good neighbor, my friend. But here comes a warning also for all citizens and immigrants: “Don’t tread on me or my loved ones!” Do not tread on the less fortunate. Do not tread on or persecute any one person or group of persons because they believe differently or may look differently than you do. Do not disrespect America or our flag. If you are or become a traitor... you are my enemy. If you alone or in conspiracy with others plan to do us harm or if you threaten my country or any American here or abroad… you are my enemy. If you stand with my enemy… you are my enemy. As General Patton once said “May God have mercy on my enemies. Because I won’t” I proudly stand for the United States America!
