Most knowledge is far beyond that which we are practicing within the profession of architecture. Part of this condition results from our attempt to operate under an out-dated set of rules. Building is the largest and one of the most important industry yet our product is made the same way that it was hundreds years ago with the same prejudices involved. If we say that a house should be built of wood, brick stone or shingle, we never offend anybody but most people have a negative reaction toward synthetic materials. Initially we should analyze a problem and to establish what is possible within the rules as they exist. Then, we should analyze a problem and re-program it, based on the best use of the space and disregarding rules. Next, we should spend time trying to get approved those particular design elements which are not within existing regulations. Whenever we can get one point across successfully, we have gained a little ground. These points eventually add up to major gains.
