Most of Firrells report is in. Everything but her toe. She had adenocarcinoma of unknown origin (possibly mammary or any other area with epithelial, or glandular, cells) as well as carcinoma, and she also had pneumonia, which explain her difficulty breathing. Cancer had metasticized to her spleen, kidneys, and heart. Dr. J didnt take a sample from the lump by her nose, so we dont know if that was also carcinoma/adenocarcinoma or perhaps melanoma. Her specialist had not previously been concerned about the pigment changes in her right eye, and the enucleated eye had benign melanoma, so maybe that mass was related to the malignant cancer or perhaps her salivary gland was the point of origin. (My friends cat had salivary gland cancer, which is extremely rare.) Firrell did have much difficulty swallowing and always seemed nauseous. So...we dont have a complete story, but at least we have more answers. Removing Firrells eye to prevent melanoma didnt save her from getting cancer, but it did allow us to better care for her when she needed us most. She was indoors, had her own little private suite and hospice nurse/massage therapist to care for and comfort her, pain relief, etc. Im so grateful for the time I got to spend with Firrell. She was such a strong girl and so full of love. I wonder how she could still be so loving and manage to live with all of the horrible things happening inside of her. She was such a fighter, just like her boys. She was my friend. My little weed cat. (Ill elaborate on that soon!) My friend. My Firrell. 🌻💜
