Most of you have probably heard of Tough Mudder by now. Tough Mudder run obstacle course races throughout the world and their brand is continuing to grow. To complete a Tough Mudder is a challenge for most and my first Tough Mudder 2 years ago in Melbourne, was no different. I loved the concept of running 20km and completing obstacles, set up to test your core strength/upper body strength/mental strength. After earning my first orange headband, I wanted more! So, I travelled to Sydney and ran on both the Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday the Electroshock Therapy knocked me out for a split second............but I was undeterred. I had found my sport! Not blessed with natural speed, I knew my endurance was good enough to last most distances. After speaking with a mate, Tim Kacprzak, I decided to apply for the 2012 Worlds Toughest Mudder. I was accepted and in chilly conditions in New Jersey, I managed to cover 80km over the 24 hour period. I placed 82/1300 but it was the comaraderie of all my fellow Mudders that I enjoyed most. I was hooked! Straight away I had my mind set on 2013. Again, in New Jersey, the weather gods smiled this time and the conditions were nowhere near as harsh as the previous year. I managed 112km this time and placed 49th. The next morning I couldnt walk (which is stock standard for WTM finishers) but I knew I was coming back again. When WTM 2014 was announced as Las Vegas, my adrenaline hit the roof! I signed up that day and could not sleep that night. Excited was an understatement. I cannot wait to tackle what in my opinion is the best Obstacle Race in the world. Some might think of me as selfish. Some might think Im a bit crazy. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. All I know, is that I have the support of my wife and family and I am very lucky to go chasing my dreams. I am not an elite athlete and I wont win the race. I do know though, that I am mentally strong and physically I think am getting better at these endurance events. Unfortunately I have a slight hip injury which does require surgery but I can work around it.......and thats my plan. Due to my hip injury, this could be my last big endurance event, hence I have decided to film a documentary on my journey. Hopefully, in years to come, it is something I can look back on with great memories. I have 4 goals this year. 1. I want to keep moving for the whole 24 hours. 2. I want to improve my ranking from 2013 (49th) 3. I want to walk down Las Vegas strip the day after the race, unaided. 4. This one is my little secret for now. Ill tell you before the race what it is. Over the next 5-6 months, I hope to take you on my journey to Worlds Toughest Mudder 2014. I hope you enjoy it! https://toughmudder.au/events/worlds-toughest-mudder
