The principal of the judgement of God never comes across to me more clearly than the possession of the Jews into what was called the promised land. The Jews were never to think of themselves as being so holy as to believe Jehovah was giving them favor for that reason. Hear what the writer of Deuteronomy has to say: "After the Lord your God has driven them out before you, do not say to yourself, “The Lord has brought me here to take possession of this land because of my righteousness. No, it is on account of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is going to drive them out before you. It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land; but on account of the wickedness of these nations, the Lord your God will drive them out before you, to accomplish what he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." Many skeptics and atheists point to the brutality of God to wipe out a complete nation, including women and children. As difficult as this is to hear there is another side to the coin. Some of these nations had lived in open defiance and sin before the Lord for several hundreds of years. They had many chances to repent and turn to God in holiness. But they refused and judgement was caused to fall on them by God.
