Most of you who have known me for a long time, know I have a really crummy back. Had my 1st back surgery when I was 11 years old. I was really blessed in that I did not have any pain with my back until I was almost 30.........then it began. I had horrible pain that sometimes would put me flat on my back for weeks at a time. My wonderful primary care Dr at that time, (Dr Nesbitt) recommended that I see a spinal specialist. So started a long long search to find someone who could figure out the problem. Also during that long search I had one of the greatest physical therapists ever, helping me to keep on keeping on. I really dont know what I would have done without Dr Nesbitt & Dean Huffsteddler! I think I tried just about everything & seems like I visited back specialists all over TX. without success. One Dr in Dallas with a huge reputation for being one of the best, took one quick look at my MRIs & said, You have a horrible back. Nothing can be done for it. The pain is only going to get worse as you age. Youre going to have to learn to live with it. I left his office bawling my head off. When I went in for my physical therapy the next week & told Dean about it, he told me to NOT give up. He said he had heard really good things about a Dr in Ft Worth, Dr John Malonis. He wanted me to go to see him. It took me almost 6 months to get my 1st appointment with him, but it was the RIGHT move! Yea! He studied my MRIs & then ordered some more. He found a cyst growing inside my spinal column that was pressing on the spinal nerve. He did surgery on it, taking out the cyst that he said must have been growing for years. As soon as I woke up from the surgery, I knew the pain was GONE! I could hardly believe it, but it was gone. He immediately got added to my hero list with Dr Nesbitt & Dean. LOL Ive been keeping regular appointments (every 6 months) since then. Dr Malonis has done surgery on my moms knees, on Dwight when he fell off a ladder & broke his leg & has seen my youngest grandson. We had a joke going with him about a family discount plan. LOL About the last year or a little more, I started having some pain again & Dr Malonis wanted to do another MRI to see if the cyst was growing back. I begged off & said, Lets wait a little while longer, hoping the pain would stop without more surgery. Last week I had my 6 month appointment & had decided I would let him go ahead & order an MRI. When I got there for my appointment, instead of getting to see him, I got a total shock. I found out that he had been killed in a car wreck back in June. Dwight & I both were just almost bowled over. He had become more than just a great Dr. to us, he was a friend. So for anyone who knew Dr Malonis, but have not heard of his passing, I will post his obituary. Rest in peace Dr Malonis. You were loved by many.
