Most people cant live and breath health and fitness like a personal trainer. Be realistic and work with your personal trainer to structure a suitable plan that meets the demands required to get to your goal, but incorporates all other aspects of your life- family time, work, socialising (within reason), and anything else that is a priority in your life. Any good personal trainer will recognise that we generally only spend 30mins-3hours a week together with each client and yet many expect their clients to live the health and fitness lifestyle they do. This is not realistic for either party - too high expectations from PTs, and unattainable goals for clients. Using a personal trainer is a great start, so you have an appointment and are much more likely to attend the gym than pull out at the last minute if you were going by yourself (not to mention a guranteed high intensity and relevant workout). So if you have managed to make it this far through this post, ask yourself where can I realistically fit exercise and food preparation into my life. And, if you find you can but its simply motivation, consider a PT session to hold you accountable. Before you know it you will be empowered to confidently work out on your own and teach others the benefits of your new found knowledge. Cheers Andrew OBrien PT.
