Most people would rather read a bumper sticker message than a message something of substantive value. Maybe its because we are to busy or maybe its because our attention spans have been shorten because of technology. Who knows? However, over the past several days God has had way of putting certain things into perspective. One of which is the importance of forgiveness. I know that everyone who reads this has been hurt in some fashion or form...whether it was by a family member, a friend, or maybe someone foreign to us. We allow those hurts to serve as a means to excuse ourselves from reaching out so said individuals. As a result, relationships are broken and lives are ultimately ruined. However, I cannot help but returning to the Cross. I always found it interesting that Jesus first words were of forgiveness. Father, for them for they know not what they do... Hmmn? Did you ever wonder who Jesus was referring too? Was He talking about the Pharisees and Sadducees for violating every practical law regarding His arrest? Or was He referring to Pilate for giving the final approval for His Crucifixion? Or was He relating to those who beat Him beyond recognition; forced Him to carry His own Cross, and pierced His hands and feet? Or what about those who stood at the foot of His Cross cheering and to chanting for His death? Or could He have been referring to His disciples who denied Him and deserted Him? After much ponder and prayer, I believe it was all of the above. I believe His petition for forgiveness included all people: past, present, and future. I believe there is something medicinal and mystical about forgiveness...it not sets the person hurt free, it also frees the one who did the hurting. Now let me ask, if Jesus had the power to seek forgiveness for those who persecuting Him, then what prevents us from wanting to forgive others. Are we not called and commanded to follow His example. Well, the answer to that question is simply yes it is. youtube/watch?v=oIbCpy0CQEo
