Motel “gems”, Surprising reward, and Nancy gets - TopicsExpress

Motel “gems”, Surprising reward, and Nancy gets attacked Sunday, July 6 We found a lower price/lower end room in Fort Collins that boasted a continental breakfast. I was going to stay up later than Paul and sleep longer than breakfast would be served so before I went to sleep I left him a note to snag me a couple donuts or pastries and I would eat them whenever I got up. When Paul went down in the morning, he found the continental breakfast consisted of donut “gems” and coffee flavored water. To give you an idea of these “gems” – Gems are to donuts as diamonelles are to diamonds- not even cubic-zirconia quality. He went for a short walk and when he returned the 12 gems were gone and none were put out to replenish them. I ate at McDonalds on the way to church. We met my Uncle George at his beautiful church with elegant beams and a mountain view for an uplifting sermon and engaging contemporary service. We followed him up the canyon to their beautiful cabin in the mountains. Since we had to keep up, we couldn’t stop for pictures. It was so beautiful with the river bouncing along the roadway and craggy Rocky mountains surrounding us. It was an excruciating route for a photographer without access to a camera. We visited with George, Pat, friend Harriet and were happily surprised that my cousin Nate and his new bride Kristen were also in town. We had a wonderful visit and got to see the professional quality DVD from their honeymoon in the Greek Islands and the surrounding area. They are kindred spirits and I know they will have a happy life – running, biking, parasailing and adventuring together. We started out late-afternoon toward Fort Laramie. Because I couldn’t take pictures on the way up the mountain with the perfect light and fantastic scenery (pout, pout) I felt compelled to find something (wrong light, construction traffic, etc) on the way down. Stopped for a picture and found a $20 bill snagged in the grass. I guess pouting does work after all. Looked for a motel north and found no vacancies that we would pay for ($130 at 10:15, just ridiculous!!) We found a camping spot at Guernsey State Park near Fort Laramie, WY and set up the van for sleeping. It was the first time we used our new air bed and it was after dark when we set up. I was trying to inflate it with the battery operated pump that came with it inside the van. Things were going great until the thing came alive, trapping me under it and pinning me against the back of the seat. I couldn’t reach the switch on the pump and finally and reluctantly called for Paul’s help. After he stopped laughing, he helped pull me out from under the beast and together we set it up. Not that comfortable – next time we will inflate it more. I don’t think your knee is supposed to touch bottom when you’re climbing in. It was a beautiful night. The moon’s reflection on the water made a sparking path across the lake, and we could tell there were high hills/mountains around us, but we couldn’t really see any detail. The best part of the uncomfortable sleeping arrangement was that we both woke up around 4 AM. We went out and sat at the picnic table where I saw a falling star. The moon had dropped below the mountain and the stars were out in full force. There was a breeze that kept the mosquitoes at bay. We snuggled together to stay warm and talked about things we wanted to do and dreams of the future. Finally, we were tired enough to sleep.
