Mother Nature was not nice to me today. She threw all that she could at me. A huge electrical storm, gale force winds, waves and chop that got in my food while I was fueling (my throat is very sore) but she also gave me a beautiful sunset yesterday and sunrise this morning. She gave me a true rough water swim (and I love it rough). My pilot Reg told my Crew Chief Rick Shunk that in his 45 years of piloting Channel swimmers, this was the worse storm that he has ever seen. But it didnt stop me. I was successful. At 5:00 pm yesterday I left the white cliffs of Dover and at 6:00 am this morning, I walked up on the beach in France (or I should more accurately say I crawled up on the beach as I was too wobbly to walk). What an incredible experience. I am totally overwhelmed by the support I have received with this swim over the last two years. It has enabled me to connect with old friends, chat with current friends and make new friends. And not just fellow swimmers. Everyone. I am so appreciative of those who watched my swim, who sent me inspiring notes and who, I hope, will raise a glass tonight (if they havent already), to help me celebrate. I head off to the White Horse pub in Dover very soon to sign my name on the wall as an English Channel Champion. I will respond to everyones notes and posts. It may just take me some time. I got some celebrating to do.
