Mothers Day When I was sixteen ... I clearly remember I had a very strong picture about the life ahead of me. Primarily I was going to be a missionary in 3rd World countries ..... Second to this I really wanted to be a Mum ..... At this time I had a belief I was going to be the best Mum in the world ..... My Children were going to be different ..... 1. They were definitely going to Uni 2. They were never going to get tattoos 3. They were never ever going to ride motor bikes !!!!! 4. My sons hair was always going to be short back and sides .... 5. There was no chance they were going to play football .... 6. They were definitely going to love reading the way I love to read 7. They were going to wear trendy retro designer clothing 8. They were going to live in the city 9. All of my children regardless of gender were going to learn the piano 10. There is no way .... they would drive one of those ridiculous pumped up cars ...... 11. They would be rehearsed and trained in the fine art of public speaking and have studied the arts ........ 12. They would draw ... sing ... speak ... at the most amazing level ... 13. They would never ever fish ...... or do that sort of stuff .... 4 wheel driving, four wheelers !!!!! 14. They would hate camping ........ Anyway ..... those superficial beliefs have well and truly passed and what my three children have bought to my life is much greater than that ..... They have taught me 1. What it really means to love someone 2. They have taught me what bravery looks like 3. I have learnt I was NOT blessed with them to correct my failings 4. I have developed a real understanding of the frailty of life and the speed of time 5. They have taught me my dream for them ...... is not their dream and their dream is much much better 6.They have shown me the how incredible the human spirit is !! 7. I have learned about the superficial beliefs our culture embeds in us about what success looks like and I have learnt you set your own benchmark for success and it is intrinsic .... 8. They have challenged my spirituality ........ 9. They have taught me about quiet intestinal fortitude ....... That said perfect morning ... with my family ...... Happy Mothers day to all ....... Kurt and Jack if you wanted to see me scream with delight you guys could wash your hair ........ XXXXX
