Mothers Wisdom: Children are like kites. You spend what seems like a lifetime trying to get them off the ground. You run with them until youre both breathless…and sometimes they crash on the ground. Sometimes they crash on the rooftop. You patch them, comfort them, adjust them, and teach them. Finally they are airborne, but they require more string and you keep letting it out. It seems that with each twist of the ball of twine, there is a sadness coupled with joy. The kite becomes more distant, and you know it wont be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that binds the two of you together and will soar as it was meant to soar…free and alone. It is then, and only then that you know you did your job.
