(Mouse-click on the picture for better viewing) -- Prentice Prent McDaniel, age 19, and Howard McDaniel, age 17, soon after their arrival at first USN duty assignment in the Philippines. We joined the Navy together in October 1947 at Austin, Texas. We went through boot camp at San Diego, CA -- but not in the same company -- and by coincidence we got assigned to the same first duy station in the Philippines. This picture was taken soon after we arrived during January 1948 at U.S. Naval Station, Subic Bay, Philippines -- we were on a work assignment to get good dirt for flower beds at the Naval Station. The location was Mango Point, near Subic City and Mango Point Beach.
