Move, Get Out The Way Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy fathers house, unto a land that I will shew thee:”~ Genesis 12:1~ Have you ever been in a place and felt like you didn’t belong? Have you ever been around family and they just simply made you uncomfortable? Have you ever wished you could go far away to be around people you don’t know? Have you ever just wished when you blinked your eyes, you would be on a JOURNEY far off? Have you ever felt like one day just runs into the next? Have you ever felt like you were just trying to get by? Have you ever wondered if there is something more? Have you ever wondered that your life could be full of ADVENTURE? Have you ever felt like the kids, the job and all of the extracurricular stuff was just too much and that your life had lost its zest and excitement? Have you ever just been aggravated with people, you just wanted to say, “Move, Get Out The Way”… At some point in life we have all felt like that. It’s not a strange feeling. Even Abram had to Move, Get Out The Way… You know we all love to hear stories about JOURNEYS, ADVENTURED and unexpected travel experiences. We crave the stories from others who tell stories of their vacations or travels. Look at the car market and witness how many names are associated with an exciting ADVENTURE where we find the JOURNEY we should be on. Explorer, Escape, Expedition, Pathfinder, Land Rover, Outback, Forester, all of these things excite us as we try to find the JOURNEY that we need to be on. But even more than the physical JOURNEY we love to hear about people’s JOURNEY through life. We want to know what makes people tick. There are many of us in the world today that have a tendency as people to inflict more pain on our own lives than is necessary. We just simply have to Move, Get Out The Way… For some this may be a sore issue today because we feel mistreated or like we didn’t get what we thought we deserved. Or maybe we even ended up in a worse situation because of our judgment. Please don’t be misunderstood. We are all very independent and believe that life does not happen by accident. This world is what you make it, but we have all learned that we don’t want our life to be about what we make it. Our life needs to be what GOD wants it to be. All of that requires a lot. It requires time, patience, commitment, getting real about our lives, but most importantly it requires taking the JOURNEY of faith. The hope we all achieve is to feel a little better about our life and be encouraged to take a JOURNEY of faith ourselves. We just simply have to Move, Get Out The Way… It is in the text, about Abram or as we know him Abraham, that GOD sets up the promise that is fulfilled in JESUS. The New Testament says that if we are followers of JESUS, then this passage is true for our lives as well. Paul calls Christians “children of the promise”. In another part the bible says that we are joint heirs with CHRIST if we have a right relationship with GOD. When the bible calls JESUS’ followers “children of the promise”, this is the promise that is being spoken of. But this promise did not come without expectations. It did not come without conflict, it did not come without commitment and hard work and it certainly did not come about without a JOURNEY. We just simply have to Move, Get Out The Way… Although life takes us into things that wear us out, we can still go where GOD wants us to go. We think of Abraham as this great man full of faith in GOD. He was a man who trusted GOD completely. So when we think of Abraham we immediately think of things like, “There’s a guy who trusted GOD with everything”. But life was not always like that for this man. There was a time when Abram was just an ordinary man. In our text GOD says to Abram, “Get the out of thee country.”You might be tempted to say yeah that was GOD talking to Abram, but when is GOD going to send me on a mission. GOD is using this verse to talk to every person. And He wants us to know that life does not have to be a period of time that is wasted but it can be used for productive meaningful things. This was the beginning of Abram’s great JOURNEY. It was a JOURNEY of many miles but it was also a JOURNEY of his ability to trust GOD. And it may be that GOD is calling some of us to take a similar kind of JOURNEY in our lives. We just simply have to Move, Get Out The Way… We are called by GOD for something better. Abram doesn’t hesitate on this MOVE. But it’s clear that GOD has something better for him. It’s also clear that GOD has something better for us. The promise is right here. But we won’t find out what GOD has in store, we will never find out what He wants to do in our life until we decide to leave our safe place and MOVE to where He wants us to go. Does that mean we need to pack up the family? If we have asked that question then we have missed the point. Abraham had to leave where he was because GOD wanted him to have something better. Did we catch that? GOD wanted him to be something better and GOD wanted to give Abram some really good land. We should feel like GOD wants to give us something better. We need to know that GOD wants to add blessings to our life. He wants to make our life matter to those around us. He wants to make us a blessing to everyone who knows us. Sometimes this may mean, we have to leave that job, we got comfortable in. We may even have to get from around our family that does not support our values and mission. This may also mean, we may have to rid ourselves of some of those friends that are leading us into a dead end. REMEMBER:A prophet is without honor in his own country… We just simply have to Move, Get Out The Way… Sometimes we think that GOD is out to get us but the truth is GOD wants to shower good things on people who love Him. We just simply have to Move, Get Out The Way… Be Encouraged and Don’t Give Up… O. W. Woodard #FBIMinistries 29 November 2014
