Movement and Spin Spin is something that has always intuitively - TopicsExpress

Movement and Spin Spin is something that has always intuitively interested me, but it is only recently that I have actually taken some decent time to ponder it carefully and attempt to internalize and integrate it enough to verbalize a coherent rant. Im not sure if I have acheived that yet, but some clearing of accumulated thought is definitely needed...so Im going to throw it all on the table for other movement geeks to chew on. By spin, I refer to the literal and explicit definition...rotation around an axis. What is so interesting about spin? When you actually think about it, it is something that is being done from the very smallest known particles (quarks) to the infinite expanse of the universe itself (gradual expansion outwards). Thinking in these extremes is daunting...and is likely too extreme to really grasp with any real confidence...so lets put it into more familiar terms. The Sun is woven into the cosmos, so it is spinning (orbiting) at unimaginable speeds. The earth orbits the sun (spins around it) and also spins upon its own axis...so it when we take the sum all of these spin forces, we can logically assume that SPIN plays an intimate (if not critical) role in our existence (let alone, in our movement). From this somewhat meta-physical perspective, we get to the more tangible reality of spinning as a mechanism to make movement more efficient...to be precise, the use of rolls as a portal to exit from a fall, spin and tangeantial movement to make Aikido on of the most (seemingly) effortless forms of martial art, and paradoxically why absolute stillness provides an excellent mode for more transcendental awareness. EVERYTHING is spinning...within and without. We are made of and exist in a world of spin, therefore it must be an intimate part of us...and hence, a key catalyst in how well we move. Again...not sure if that was well formulated, but there it is on the table to chew on and digest. Cheers!
