Movie Review: Runner Runner (2013) – This is a crime thriller film which stars Justin Timberlake, Ben Affleck, Gemma Arterton, and Anthony Mackie. The film is about a guy named Richie that uncovers cheating in online poker, he then confronts the owner Ivan Block who runs the gambling website from Costa Rica. Ivan employees Richie and it isn’t long until the dark underside of the gambling empire is revealed to Richie. Confronted by corruption, the FBI and Ivan Block’s dark secret, Richie has to figure out how to save himself and those he cares about. The film doesn’t succeed too much as a thriller; it’s like paint by numbers for a crime thriller without anything surprising or innovative to the film style or story. The cast does a decent job but unfortunately there isn’t much more to this film. Typically naïve character gets in to deep into a world he doesn’t understand and has to rise above to out smart the person that put him in that predicament. In other words… it’s boring and will be getting a 1 out of 4 stars. I’d appreciate some better storytelling but all I got was boring bullshit.
