Tallywhackers United 8 – 0 UAE Town Flopping Tallies Finally Rise to the Occasion Again! In recent weeks, Tallywhackers United have seemed sluggish, often never getting off the mark and to coin a phrase “not rising to the occasion”. Always finishing second or not finishing at all, the Gaffer was left often scratching his head as to what was going wrong. With the players at his disposal, Tallies should have been performing better than they had been. A run of 1 Win and 1 Draw in 5 games, this looked far and away from the team that had been challenging for promotion all season and this recent run of form had seen them slump from 2nd to 4th. But this all changed this week, and like the little blue tablet given to the aging gentleman, there was blood running through the veins of the Tallywhackers once again. Missing through injury was James Deacon, along with Jason Tombs who was just missing. Again. The Gaffer opted for a starting 6 of Tom Jeffs in goal, Nick Moorcroft and Ryan Larner at the back and a midfield 3 of Jason Dinsmore, Matt Dinsmore and Ed Thompson. And things could not have started any better for the Gaffer. Within 30 seconds of the start, Tallywhackers had made the perfect start. Ed Thompson, playing a ball to the feet of Matt and with the deft flick of his left foot, split open the UAE Town defence to find Jason Dinsmore, who rifled his first time effort in to the bottom corner. Following on from this, Tallywhackers almost found themselves two goals to the good, again through the excellent combination of the Dinsmore, this time Jason turning provider for Matt, who’s well struck first time effort curling just wide of the post. Tallywhackers looked up for it and it wasn’t too long before they were rewarded. Thompson slipping in Matt through the middle, whose perfectly timed pass was, flicked up for Jason whose turn and sublime volley found its way in to the bottom corner once more and Tallywhackers were 2-0 up. Jason this time returned the favour for Matt this time, coming through the middle after Nick’s pass from defence, slipping Matt in from the right to play it so close to the keeper it was almost as if Matt was trying to embarrass him. But it wasn’t all plain sailing for Tallies; UAE found themselves with some time coming forward. Larner caught in possession, gave UAE all the time in the world to pick their spot, fortunately for him he was well backed up by Nick to put the man off, with Jeffs covering anything that did come his way. Tallywhackers, annoyed by this blatant act of siege on their goal, decided three wasn’t enough, the impressive Matt Dinsmore collecting a pass from Moorcroft, playing a 1-2 with his brother, Jason, before carving an opening for Ed Thompson to rifle home for his 1st goal in fewer games that it’s taken Tombs to score. It wasn’t long before Larner was again at fault for creating a UAE Town opening, this time, scoping up an under arm roll in, for a head height rule free kick. UAE Town taking the quick free kick to get in a half chance goal, with Jeffs getting down well to cover it at the far post. Gardner entered the fray now for the tiring Ed Thompson, and his introduction spurned on all! Gards wandering down the right to find his brother Matt in the middle, Matt breaking through the middle of the pitch, before playing a side pass to Jason who made no mistake in completing his hat-trick. Tallywhackers leading 5-0 at the break and it was seemingly all smiles again! Jason made way for David Morey, making his return to the Tallywhackers line up, which coincided with Jason Tombs missing out for the first time in 5 games and this being Morey’s first in three weeks. Strange one that… Tallywhackers took their foot off the pedal in the second half and allowed UAE Town more time and space on the ball, and rushing too much of their play. Although when they did get through, an improved Larner was there to clean up the first round of muck, with Morey tracking and covering his man with impressive strength and agility. Matt Dinsmore returned to the fray along with Jason to bring some creativity back to the team and it paid off almost immediately. Jason collecting the ball in the centre of the park, found Gardner down the right wing with an exquisite through ball, Gardner allowed that ball to run past his stronger left foot, and made a half chance on his right. Tallywhackers did make time for another goal though, this time Jason and Matt combining again for Jason to grab his 4th Goal and Tallywhackers 6th with a fine counter attack. With UAE all pushing forward in search of a way back in to the match, Sean had played in Matt in the middle of the park and with a turn of pace and shoulder of strength, Matt made enough room to play in Jason who made no mistake in finding the bottom corner. Tallywhackers were all for having fun now and this fun, almost turned in to the finest move and finish that you were ever likely to witness! Gards played in Larner in the centre, whose first time pass found Matt out wide on the right, his first time pass was played through to Jason, and Jason with all the predatory instinct of a cheetah, unleashed a wicked volley which flew marginally wide of the post. Not to be out done though, Tallywhackers did finally make it 7-0 and again it was another counter attack that made it. Ed picking Matt out on the right, with the former breaking down the right and clipping a shot in to the corner with aplomb. Matt also looking for his hat-trick did manage to pull out a gem of a miss though. After being played through by Jason, Matt was found to be 1 on 1 with the UAE goalkeeper, after rounding him, Matt found the keeper hadn’t gone to the floor as he had expected, so his attempt at lobbing the prone player, didn’t exactly come off as he had intended. To round off a fine performance by the Tallywhackers, Matt, after doing the hard work in the middle found Ryan Larner making a run out to the right, passing through to Larners feet and his first time effort from the edge of the area finding the bottom corner, but not without some muted shouts from the UAE players for being in the area, with that being the final kick of the game. After, an elated Gaffer had this to say “If we play like this every week when Tombsy informs me he can’t make it 3 minutes before kick off, just imagine the boost it would give the lads if he never turned up *laughing*” further adding “The lads deserved this win today, its been a long time coming, and it further shows our commitment to regaining our place back in the top spots, it was a pretty faultless performance and a big credit goes to the two Dinsmores today”. The win puts Tallywhackers back in to 2nd spot in the league with massive games coming up against the teams around the, They’ll first play Bareaselona who currently occupy 3rd place, this is followed by a top of the table clash against Old Norts, who are currently on their way to being league champions. They then play their bogey team, Outer Milan, who currently occupy 4th. A massive 6 points up for grabs and Tallywhackers will be pushing all the way. Player Ratings to follow!
