Movie Review (tiny bits of spoiler, beware): Divergent is really convergent, being a highly derivative flic that will feel familiar as you recognize all the components of the stories it steals from... That said, the production is fantastic, and the movie is highly entertaining. Whereas the Hunger Games movies fail to capture the books portrayal of a society split apart so no one group can mount an effective war against the capitol which is lost in the shuffle.... Divergent clearly makes the case -- though the groups arent separated, not even those booted out... so clearly, their leaders are doing it wrong. The initiation into a particular group in society with the sorting hat, oh wait, sorry, thats Harry Potter... here its a sorting SINK... my bad.. the initiation is far more dramatic than the material it pulls from. Then theres a bit of Logans Run, and probably a multitude of other sci-fi / survival movies you can name parts from. Still, a VERY entertaining movie which does set itself up for a sequel, but as opposed to many movies these days, spends the effort to give you a nice ending to THIS movie rather than abruptly cutting you off and saying, Buy more tickets, @#$@es (Im pointing at YOU, Prometheus, grr). I give it a solid 4 of 5 stars.
