Movie SeaCell™-seaweed harvesting: revision and adaption of the corporate design In summer 2012, the CEO of smartfiber AG, Michael Kohne and his team traveled to Iceland to observe the seaweed harvesting for the SeaCell™-fiber on site. An informative movie documents the harvesting process in the unique ecosystem of the untouched fjords of Iceland. SeaCell™ contains brown seaweed with the name ascophyllum nodosum or knotted wrack. Knotted wrack is harvested in the cold and pure fjords of Iceland. These far into mainland reaching estuaries with mostly very steep slopes present pristine nature and are a paradise for animals, especially nestling birds of all kinds. The fjords are barely populated. No wastewater and no ships pollute the naturally preserved microcosm. The movie documents the harvesting process of the SeaCell™-seaweed. It is harvested in a gentle and sustainable way. Only every 4 years a certain section above the so-called regenerative region of the seaweed gets cropped. The seaweed only gets cropped consciously above this growth zone to enable new sprouting. It is gently dried and after that roughly shredded.
