Moving Day! Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. Psalm 49:11 When young and growing up in our parent’s home, we feel secure there and learn to love it. There are so many reasons for moves from one place to another. Our father gets a new job in a different town, making it necessary to move. This brings mixed emotions; sorrow because we will be leaving our old home which we have grown to love, but also excitement when looking at new homes. A decision must be made because the moving day is coming closer and closer when Father must begin his new job. Everything must be packed up into boxes. The house, which has been our home, looks so different! Finally the day has arrived and a large truck backs up to the house, and everything is loaded into it. The house is empty. We all walk around through all the rooms. Our minds go back to all the wonderful times we had. This makes us sad and even causes some tears to fall. We think the new house can never be like this house. Many tears can be shed as the memories of the past fill our minds and hearts. All we see is an empty house and once we leave, we think we will never see it again, but going back is possible. This is an earthly move, which happens often, but it should remind us of our final eternal move. Ecclesiastes 3:1, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” This move is what we should be prepared for at all times, because we do not know the closing date for that move. As Jesus warns in Luke 12:40, “Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.” This subject is not thought of very often, because our minds and hearts are too earthly minded, thinking that our life here is never going to end. The author of this Psalm sees life that is not to be found on this earth without God. “Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world: Both low and high, rich and poor, together. My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding” (Psalm 49:1-3). Have you ever thought about the move from time to eternity? Has this become a personal matter between you and your maker? Trusting in ourself or our possessions will end in disaster as the Psalm continues, “None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others” (Psalm 49:7-10). Is this move the end? Is life on earth the only home we shall ever know? Is there life after death? This Psalm speaks of death, but that the upright shall have dominion over the wicked in the morning, and power over the grave because He (God) will receive me! (Read Psalm 49:12-15). What morning is this speaking of? Revelation 20:12-15, “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead, which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead, which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” This shows us that earth is not our home. We will move to our eternal home never to move again, a very fearful thought to think about! Those who are written in the book of life will not need to go through the second death. What does the second death consist of? It is to be cast away forever into outer darkness, which is hell! “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” (Revelation 21:1-4). Which home will you be brought into? The Bible (God’s Word) is able to make us wise unto salvation! Do you know this God? Has He become your salvation? We must be born again to a living hope, Jesus Christ and Him crucified, our only hope. Psalm 49:15, “But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me.” He (Jesus Christ) died the second death for all those whose names are written in the book of life. He arose from that death and sitteth on the right hand of His Father in glory interceding for them moment by moment, “(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption” (Psalm 49:8-9). In closing, are you building all your hope on the things of this perishing world, or is your hope in Jesus Christ and His righteousness?
