Moving towards the Corn Exchange area now, this is a great photo of 1950s Leeds. The horse and cart looks to be a coal merchants, I think it says Thomas Dean & Aysgarth on the side. The Corn Exchange has always been a bit of a mysterious area. There are accounts of a barbers shop down some stairs, but I can only ever recall a barbers shop being on the first floor. A sign of a well known Leeds mens barbers can be seen in the window. I think everyone over the age of 40 has heard of the name Homburgs I seem to recall Homburgs still being there into the early 1980s? A traditional gents barber shop of old. After your haircut, the barber would ask you Anything for the weekend sir in a whispered voice and a crafty wink There used to be toilets down some stairs at the Corn Exchange, Ive been in them myself as a youngster in the early 1970s. But memory becomes a little hazy, and I cant quite recall exactly where they were?
