Mr. Gary J. Christman, age 70, of the Holts Corner Community, died Sunday morning, August 18, 2013. Mr. Christman was born in Philadelphia, PA and was a son of the late Luther Parmalee and Dorthy Mary Black Christman. He served as a medic in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired after 23 years as a Critical Care Nurse at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, during which time he also taught nursing at Columbia State Community College. Gary was also the retired owner of Christman’s Nursery and Garden Center in Chapel Hill. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by daughters, Mary Lee Christman and Cristy Renee Flye. Mr. Christman is survived by his wife, Dianne Christman, Holts Corner Community; children, Cathy Lou (Rex) Bowman, and Leanne Flye (John) Blakemore, both of Chapel Hill, TN; sisters, Judy (Tom) Kinney, Madison, WI, Lillian (Hank) Christman, Fairfax County, VA; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Family members will receive friends on Monday, August 19, 2013 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Chatman officiating. Burial will follow in Swanson Cemetery in Chapel Hill. Chuck Kirksey, Kyle Patin, Ron Lampley, Jimmy Johnson, Robbie Sullivan, Dale Crossno, Bobby Purdom, Tommy Howell and Bill Preston will serve as pallbearers. Memorial Donations May be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City OK 73123-1718, Monroe J. Carell Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, 2200 Children’s Way, Nashville, TN 37232 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 in memory of Gary J. Christman.
