Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, has conveyed his compliments to all the senior functionaries of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides for their untiring efforts in the past 5 years which have resulted in a good number of boys and girls being inducted into the Scouts and Guides movement in the State. He also reiterated his firm belief that the activities of Scouts and Guides must be taken to the remote and difficult areas of the State. The other day the Governor, who is Patron of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, was conferred with the Silver Elephant Award (2011-2012), the highest national award of Scouting and Guiding in the country, by Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, President of India, for being instrumental in the promotion of Scouting and Guiding activities and in recognition of his distinguished services of exemplary nature to the movement in the State. The Governor observed that this Award is the recognition of the devoted work put in by all those associated with this movement in the State, and particularly referred to the missionary endeavours of Mr. N. A. Khan, State Chief Commissioner, J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides; Mr. I. D. Soni, State Commissioner of the organization; Mrs. Roma Wani, Senior Lady Vice President; Mrs. Nasreen Khan, Commissioner, Guides and the Trainers, Rangers and Rovers, Scouts and Guides, Cubs and Bulbuls and Bunnies, their leaders and all those associated with the activities of the Scouts and Guides movement in the State. The Governor expressed satisfaction that a fairly large number of Scouts and Guides from both the Jammu and Kashmir Divisions are qualifying for the Rajya Puraskar every year, with a number of them receiving the Rashtrapati Award. Referring to the 43 Scouts and Guides having qualified for the Rajya Puraskar 2013 from the Kashmir Division, the Governor hoped that a significant number of Scouts and Guides from Jammu Division would also qualify for this Award this year, as in the past.
