Mr. William Stephen (Bill) Perry, Sr. passed away early Saturday morning, May 31, at his home on District Line Road, Americus. The family will receive friends at Hancock Funeral Home from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, and at the family residence at other times. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2, from the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Smith and the Rev. Jonathan W. Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Family members will be active pallbearers and members of the board of directors of Citizens Bank of Americus are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers. A native of Marion County, Mr. Perry was born June 23, 1934, a son of the late Clarence Eldridge Perry and Mary Elua Wells Perry. He attended Georgia Southwestern College and the University of Georgia. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Americus and was affiliated with Chevron Oil Company for 57 years. He was the founder of Perry Brothers Oil Company. He was the chairman of the Southeastern Lubrication Board, a director of the Georgia Oilmens Association, and a former director of the Bank of Central Georgia in Ellaville and the Citizens Bank of Americus. He was also a member of the Ellaville Lions Club. Family members suggest that memorial contributions be made to Phoebe-Sumter Hospice, P.O. Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709, as he was an avid supporter of hospice organizations. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Joyce Bone Perry; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Stephen Perry, Jr. and Vangie, and David Paul Perry and Lori; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Perry Buford and Mike; grandchildren, William Stephen Perry, III, and Anva, Lance Addison Perry, Ashley Boyd Wheeler and Lynn, Christopher Shaun Wheeler, Kimberly Kristen Perry, Ashley Buford Braxton and Brett, Kathryn Leigh Buford; two great-grandchildren, Arden Grace Wheeler and Avery Lane Wheeler; and 16 nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Thomas E. Perry and Eldridge W. Perry, preceded him in death.
