Mr. and Mrs. Curtis March 28th, 1964 50th Wedding Aniversary Party Sept. 14th, 2014 To be married for 50 years is an incredible achievement, it takes patients, love, commitment and of course a great sense of humor. My dad was a rebel and was incredibly handsome, a bit of a cross between James Dean and Elvis Presley, my mother was simply gorgeous. When I asked them if they remember when they very first met, both of them told the story as if it were just yesterday, obviously love at first site. My dad began the story about how he and his friend were taking a walk up a set of railroad tracks and I asked him why he was walking on railroad tracks for Heaven’s sake…and he said, well, because they went past your mother’s house. I turned to her and said do you remember the first thing dad said to you? “Yep”, she said, “he said, hey girl come over here”…I said” that’s it?” “and you just walked over there”…she looked at my dad with a smile and said “yes I did”. My sisters and I could not have asked for better parents, they were there for us, cheered us on, corrected us sternly and loved us unconditionally. They worked hard, made a lot of sacrifices for us and for each other. They were great friends for many people along the way, always there to lend a helping hand, to laugh with, to have good times with and to provide a shoulder to lean on or cry on. The most important things my parents taught us was to love with all your might, wear your heart on your sleeve, be honest and most of all be humble because there is always someone somewhere who has less than you and when you find them, give them the shirt off your back. When I asked my parents about their wedding day my mother said they were married at the pastors house, my dad says they were married in the church next door…after some discussion they decided that they weren’t sure. One thing did become apparent, there was not a traditional reception, and of course that means that one important thing did not occur on that day, and that is a couples first dance. So today they will get that chance, and the song selected for them is the song that my dad used to sing to my mother, young love by Sonny James.
