Mrs. Chadwick. She showed me what a PADDLE was. She had one of those paddles that had a long rubber band with a little rubber ball attached to the end. There were two kinds. One was cheap, just a little piece of plywood cut out in the shape of a paddle. The other one, more expensive, was always painted red, and was thicker than the cheap one. Guess which one Mrs. Chadwick had (RED). If we were sittin in our little reading circle, and you didnt keep up with the reading, you got that paddle, right over her big fat lap, in front of all the other kids in our class. You should have seen her sittin on one of those little oak chairs that was made for little kids. Buncha butt hangin over that chair.
