Mrs. Elsa Chyrum - Director of Human Rights Concern Eritrea (HRCE) have been campaigning for the release and resettlement of the Eritrean refugees detainees for the last three years. Therefore, Mrs. Elsa has elevated her effort by staging hunger strike starting today outside the Djibouti Mission to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva, in support of 267 Eritrean refugees detained in Djibouti. Few months ago regrettably one of the Eritrean detainee in Djibouti had passed away. All indications shows that the situation of Eritrean detainees in the prison has not improved and we are afraid that the death incident may extend to others. We are grateful that Elsa is staging a hunger strike to expose the severity, urgency of the matter and to bring additional public pressure to bear on the Djiboutis government. Lets be part of the public pressure and this lobbying campaign in any way we can. We stand with Elsa & Eritrean refugee detainees and we wish freedom to Eritrean refugees detained in Djibouti.
