Ms T first presented to us here in October as a referral case. She was bleeding profusely from a wound in front of her leg and was oozing blood from the margins where her skin meets the shell. After running some tests we discovered that her PCV (essentially her red blood cell count) had dropped to 5% and she was septicaemic (a blood infection). This situation was extremely serious and definitely life threatening. Ms T was started on a treatment course and on rechecking today there is no further bleeding and only a small scab on the skin remains, which will heal well. The red cell count has increased to 34% (normal approximately 25-35%). Her carers have done an amazing job of looking after her at home and we are really glad that she is on the mend.
