Mubi which is the second largest town in Adamawa has been captured - TopicsExpress

Mubi which is the second largest town in Adamawa has been captured by the Boko haram group, and there have been a massive influx of refugees to Yola which is the state capital of Adamawa. The numbers of the refugees are estimated to be over 3000. As a serving corp member of NYSC presently based in Yola Adamawa state, I am a witness to some of the situations of the refugees coming into Yola which is very touching. My fellow corp members that were posted to Gombi which is close to Mubi zone escaped and came into Yola at the back of a truck. According to various eye witnesses, some soldiers in Mubi were ripping off there uniforms and putting on civilian clothes while they retreat in massive numbers due to the gravity of the insurgency. Children have been missing, families disconnected, some civilians have been massacred by the insurgents and some are lost in the forests. A staff in the place that I am serving told me the head of his cousin who was a student of Mubi federal polytechnic was chopped off by the insurgents. So many residents of Mubi climbed through hills and moved into Cameroon by foot walking through forests and towns before getting to Yola. I have had series of contacts and discussions with some of these victims of this terrorism whom have lost contact with there families, loved ones, and properties. An elderly male civil servant I met in a bus was narrating how he climbed hills and moved across cameroon inorder to get to Yola, I kept on wondering because I am still yet to understand the geography of Adamawa, he was narrating this story with tears in his eyes as I consoled him. On 31 October last week Friday, the traffic jam was so intensed due to the influx of refugees that I had to walk with so many people of various ages and other works of life for an hour to my home from Jimeta town to Yola town. Presently, there is panic in the state capital Yola, and some people are moving out of Adamawa to other states due to the fear of an attack by the insurgents. A curfew has been imposed by the state governor of Adamawa from 9pm to 5am. NYSC corp members were notified to observe a certain precaution by temporarily changing the venue of our monthly clearance yesterday under our designated local government which is Yola north; and my CDS activity has been suspended for this week. Based on hearsay, military arrangements are under swift preparation to halt the insurgency in Mubi, but in my opinion nothing obvious has been done to mitigate such horrendous act perpetrated by the insurgents. Let those that are responsible for these evil acts have mercy and put a stop to it, and let the world come to the aid of the victims of this insurgency; their plights are inexplicably enormous. This is what I can say to the world for now, for what I have written which is based on my own account is inconclusive and non exhaustive when looking at the magnitude of the present situation of the recent capture and attack of Mubi in Adamawa state.
