Mudcats win 4-3! RECAP: Frederick, Md. - The Carolina Mudcats scored three times in the eighth inning to rally past the Frederick Keys 4-3 on Thursday night at Harry Grove Stadium. Carolina improved to 5-2 by taking all three games in the set and dropped the Keys to 2-5 in the process. The win was credited to Benny Suarez (1-0) after the right-hander pitched a scoreless seventh. Louis Head survived one last push from Frederick to record a six-out save. It was his third in as many chances this year. Miguel Chalas (0-1) allowed all three runs in the swing frame, facing nine batters. Anthony Gallas began the comeback with a single. Jeremy Lucas laced a double to the gap in left-center and Gallas came around to score. With Alex Monsalve batting, a wild pitch moved Lucas to third. Monsalve worked a walk to bring up LeVon Washington and the left fielder delivered with a sacrifice fly to deep center to tie the game at three. The Mudcats werent finished, however. James Roberts followed with a single and a walk to Charlie Valerio loaded the bases for the top of the order. With Todd Hankins up, Monsalve raced home for the go-ahead score when a wide pitch glanced off the glove of catcher Steel Russell to the backstop. Frederick had one last hope in the ninth. Trent Mummey singled on a perfect bunt up the first base line and an errant throw to first by Head on a sacrifice attempt set the table. Head shrugged off the mistake, however, and fanned the final three hitters to nail down the victory. The Keys jumped out 2-0 in the first inning when starter Michael Peoples surrendered a two-run double to Creede Simpson. It was the first time this season that the opponent scored first against the Mudcats and snapped a streak of 23.1 straight innings without allowing an earned run for the starting rotation. Monsalve put the Mudcats on the board in the second inning. The designated hitter led off with a double and moved to third on a Washington single. A passed ball scored Monsalve and the Mudcats trailed 2-1. The Keys made it 3-1 in the fifth on a Glynn Davis double. The Mudcats open a series against the Potomac Nationals from G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium on Friday, April 11, at 7:05 p.m. Broadcast time on the Mudcats Radio Network is set for 6:45. Two southpaws will square off as Ryan Merritt starts against the Nationals Brett Mooneyham. The Mudcats return home on Tuesday, April 15, against the Salem Red Sox.
