Multiple myeloma is cancer that starts in the plasma cells in bone - TopicsExpress

Multiple myeloma is cancer that starts in the plasma cells in bone marrow. Bone marrow is the soft, spongy tissue found inside most bones. It helps make blood cells. Plasma cells help your body fight infection by producing proteins called antibodies. Becoming a stemcell donor is a very safe and painless donor process. It just starts with a swab of your gum line... If you are a match, the process is not much more difficult. Stem-cells are excreted from the blood through a machine that operates fairly similar to the dialysis process. Stems are excreted from the blood then harvested to be reinserted through an IV into the patient.
