Multitask Personnel are working in partnership with a popular museum attraction based in Manchester. We are currently recruiting for a Facilities Maintenance Technician on a permanent basis. Purpose of the Job The museum site covers over seven acres and comprises five listed buildings. The role is responsible for the daily operation, planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance of the museum’s building management systems and all other facilities plant equipment. Key Deliverables/Accountabilities 1. Responsibility for all of the museum’s building management systems and other facilities plant equipment. 2. Responsible for undertaking planned and preventative maintenance for all of the museum’s facilities plant equipment 3. Responsible for reactive maintenance: accurate diagnosis of faults and facilitation of rapid repair within agreed timescales so the facilities are always maintained to a consistently high standard. 4. Ensure legislative and regulatory compliance in all work undertaken. 5. Provide specific subject matter expertise to the Masterplanning process 6. Provide support for emergency FM maintenance when requested to ensure repairs are carried out as quickly and as safely as possible. 7. Assist in the identification and support procurement of any specialist contractors required to assist with the maintenance of the buildings, including arranging site inspections, and working alongside them. 8. Complete job tracking records to enable the production of management information to monitor the performance of equipment. 9. To place orders for and monitor the use of repair and replacement materials and components in line with the museum’s financial procedures. 10. Support provision of suitable office accommodation for all staff and volunteers. 11. To work with and support the Estates Maintenance Technician to maintain the museum’s heritage buildings and structures. 12. Provide excellent customer service, answering all visitor queries in a polite and helpful manner and offering similar levels of service and professionalism to staff and volunteers. 13. Any other duties as required to assist the Estates team and support the museum’s objectives. Mandatory responsibility for all staff Take care of your personal health and safety and that of others and report any health and safety concerns. Ensure proactive compliance with the Museum’s H&S Policies, including risk assessments and implementing safe systems of work. The post holder will work 5 days out of 7 on a rolling roster including regular weekends, Bank Holidays and evenings, to reflect the 7-day visitor operation. Working Relationships and Contacts • Line management by the Estates Manager • Close working relationship with and support for the Estates team • Regular contact with and support for members of the Gallery Maintenance team. • Regular contact with other operational teams: Duty Managers, Visitor Experience, Security and Marketing teams regarding the visitor operation. • Contact with specialist external contractors, suppliers and stakeholders as and when required. Line Management and Budget Responsibility • Directly line manages: N/a • Indirectly line manages: supervision of volunteers as required • Contractors: N/a • Budget Holder: N/a Candidate Profile Experience • Experience of maintaining facilities plant and equipment to a high standard and meeting all health and safety requirements • Experience of planned preventative maintenance programmes • Specialist experience in a relevant technical subject: e.g. building management systems, heating, utilities supply etc. • Experience of working with a range of contractors, suppliers and other colleagues, such as designers, specialists, artists and project managers on museum / similar visitor attraction projects • Experience of working in museums or large-scale visitor attractions and /or interpretative environments Skills, Knowledge and Relevant Qualifications • Educated to a minimum BTEC standard in a relevant discipline, or hold a relevant apprenticeship or have a minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role • Excellent practical maintenance skills. • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal stakeholders, subject specialists, external consultants/contactors and the public to deliver outcomes • Strong team player, with excellent communication and reporting skills • Ability to deal with diversity, ambiguity and multi-tasking. • Proven ability to undertake maintenance work to a consistently high quality • Experience of taking a visitor focused approach to work • A thorough knowledge of all relevant Health and Safety legislation Behaviours • Excellent communicators (both written and verbal), with good interpersonal skills, • Motivated, self-starter, able to work to clear outcome targets • Positive, proactive, unfazed by challenges and quick to look for creative new ways to problem solve • Able to achieve results whilst working to tight deadlines, often in pressurised environments • Able to prioritise work, identify and deal with obstacles • Copes well with ambiguity, competing priorities and enjoys change • Extremely well organised, with excellent attention to detail • Breaks down complex situations into simpler or more understandable issues. • Reviews and learns from work done. Suggests ideas and improvements. Scope for Impact The post-holder will help to build the Museum’s reputation for excellence by ensuring that all of the building facilities and plant equipment that support the daily programme are maintained to the highest standards.
