Mum question: I am a Mum of 2 very delightful little people (girl 5, boy 3) We have this big open park behind our house which we feel so blessed to have. There are heaps of children that come play ranging in age from 3-6. These children never have parental supervision and tend to go for the shoot em up, chop your head off, type games. Today a 5yo girl pointed her gun and my little girl and said Im gonna kill you. I get so upset at the level of violence and worry about the effect this is having. I often step in and ask children to not involve us in there game or take there weaponry home if they are going to be violent toward us with it. It seems everyone around me have decided this is fine but I am literally the only one seeing how violent there play gets. I am wondering if this is normal and something I need to get used to? It is really disturbing for me right now. Pinky says: eek - that sounds awful! Im with you - . they seem really young to have no parental supervision. I wonder if you could suggest other games or lead the way into other games - eg ball games (take some balls) or teach them to play hopscotch or make cubbies -(you can make wonderful cubbies by pegging old sheets onto tree branches) something that would be more productive/ constructive than the violent games.
