Munna Bhais fail in internal assessment ISHFAQ NASEEM Srinagar, Nov 19: Majority of students under scanner for the 2012 BOPEE paper selling scam were barred by Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar to sit in yearly exam held in July this year after they were found irregular in classes with some of them even failing in the internal assessment test. According to officials, the number of students who failed in both the internal examination, annual first year MBBS examination and those found short of attendance was much larger, but the official records of candidates whose details were sought by the Crime Branch reveal that four of the six students were short of attendance and also failed in internal examination conducted earlier this year. Officials said that in August this year Crime Branch asked the Government Medical College Srinagar to ensure that 6 students, who were admitted at the college for MBSS, join investigation as part of the probe into the BOPEE scam. Out of the 6 candidates whose record was sought by the Crime Branch, four were barred by the GMC to sit in the yearly examination. According to officials, GMC had written a letter asking that 6 of its students should join CB investigations. Following the letter, six students were questioned by the Crime Branch and their quizzing continued for several days in the last week of August. Officials said that the students whose record was sought by the Crime Branch include Shahida Shafi of Awantipora, Bazila Bilal of Bijbehara, Shafeeq-ul-Rehman Lone of Bijbehara, Khurshid Ahmed Dar of Bijbehara and Mir Wajid Majid of Kokernag. While officials said that Mir Wajid Majid passed in the examination, Shahida Shafi, Bazila Bilal, Shafeeq-ul-Rehman Lone and Khurshid Ahmed Dar were declared absent in the yearly examination results for failing to fulfill the examination requirements. “While some of the students didn’t attend the session some others failed in the internal assessment of the GMC due to which they couldn’t sit in the final examination of the MBBS,” officials said. In the MBBS examination, a total of 28 students were either declared as absent or having failed in some subjects. According to officials, General Administration Department (GAD) also sought these records as part of government’s own inquiry into the BOPEE scam. A total of 80 students appeared in the MBBS examination, out of which 10 failed. Officials said the students who were barred from sitting in the examination could be made to sit in the examination in April next year, adding however that the final decision on allowing the MBBS students who figured in the Crime Branch investigation to continue education rests with the government. Principal GMC, Dr Rafiq Pampori said, “In case Crime Branch finds concrete role of students in the scam the college will think whether to allow them to sit for exams.” Source: greater kashmir.
