Music: If I asked anyone what music meant to them, I bet they - TopicsExpress

Music: If I asked anyone what music meant to them, I bet they could come up with a million or more ideas of what it does for their spirit. As for me, over the years, it has provided a safe haven. Motivation when I needed a partner in crime to get me off my bum. An oasis at times when I was lonely. Healing when my heart felt broken. Joy when I needed to let loose. And even therapeutic neurologically. Yes, Id be lost without a tune to carry in my brain, without a song in my heart and a few words to sing even if they roll off my lips more awkwardly off key at times these days then they used too. Simply amazing how a few bars, a few cords can empower my well-being, move my soul and boost my spirit. Seems like such a simple thing to help someone feel so alive, and the best part is, singing is contagious. We can all do it regardless of our skills. Numerous years ago, I had spent a lot of time traveling back and forth to Atlanta. Some visits where short while others where quite extensive. And with each visit I always came away with being showered with more blessings than I could imagine as well as the gift of even more beautiful friendships. One night, on a hot summer night, a few of my new friends, stopped by the residence I was staying at and invited me to ice-cream. This would entail walking a couple miles up a busy main drag known as Peachtree Rd, in the infamous area of Buckhead to an ice-cream parlor next to the well known Lennox Mall. If you are not familiar, this is an area of Atlanta frequented often by many celebrities. In fact, Elton John had a Condo just around the corner from where I was staying. To some that can be pretty exciting but for me I have always just kind of felt as if the famous are people just like you or I. Anyhow, the group I was with, had the uncanny ability to pop any tune out of their head, without skipping a beat or a note- literally. And so we sang. And, we sang. We sang all the way to the parlor. From the top of our lungs we sang. Everything from MacArthur Park, to Bohemian Rhapsody, to Aint No Sunshine, to Freebird, to He Aint Heavy, to Lifes Been Good To Me So Far, and good golly I dont know what else. And then when we arrived at the parlor the singing and fun was so contagious the employees joined in and eventually the customers too. And laugh, we laughed from the bottom of our toes, in-between songs barely able to catch our breath before someone tossed out another song and off we went again. When they left me at my doorstep, I realized we did not carry on a single conversation the entire 2 plus hours we where gone. Honestly, I am not sure how we even managed to eat our ice-cream without choking to death. Maybe I never did eat my ice-cream. No, if you know me, I did.... :-) But, I was so wired that night I couldnt sleep a wink, and my only wish was that somehow we would have recorded ourselves so I could relive it again and again. For real, not just in my memory. As I write, no doubt I am boring all to tears, but you know even when circumstances are not the greatest we can make great music, both literally and figuratively. For those of us who grew up with Daryl Hall, and who also love the heart of Jason Mraz their rendition together of I Wont Give Up I have found to be so beautifully moving and I just wanted to share. Like many songs, they have the capacity to remind us of certain times in our life. And as lyrics often do, they can hold different meanings for each us beyond what the lyrics actually may have been written for. Once again, these past many weeks there has been much sadness not only in the news, but for many of my friends, and family who have recently lost loved ones or are going through some really tough spots in life. Maybe just a few bars of this song will be found as helpful....together we all have to hang on, we all need each other. So, I ask you, How old is your Soul? Will you let loose, and sing with me? No I wont give up on us. Even if the skies get rough. Im giving you all my love... Im still looking up....... still looking up!! Still looking up!!! youtu.be/nGY8BQ5N9wA
