Music fans are set to enjoy a Lazy Sunday Afternoon of Blues, Rock and Soul at Chatham Waterfront – the first gig of its kind in Medway. New to the Medway Festival of Music, the free Blues, Rock and Soul gig will take place on 27 July at the Waterfront Stage. Headlining will be 80s blues band Nine Below Zero who are set to get the crowd moving with their high-energy fast tempo sound. They’ll be joined by The Brothers Grimm – Medway’s answer to the Blues Brothers - and supported by The Substitutes and Ol’ Pal’s Act. More acts will be announced shortly. All will take to Waterfront stage, on the grass area near Chatham bus station. The free gig running from 1pm to 10pm is set to become central to the Medway Festival of Music, which is currently in its infancy. Medway Council’s Events Manager, Carl Madjitey, said: “The Blues, Rock and Soul Lazy Sunday Afternoon is new for this year and will become the inaugural event of the Medway Festival of Music which we are developing and moving forward with. Next year we really want to go big with the festival and we have lots of gigs, workshops and concerts in the pipeline for all music tastes running throughout the summer.” Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Services, Cllr Howard Doe, said: “We are very pleased to be able to launch this new free event to the people of Medway. Chatham Waterfront is going to be a hive of activity and will provide a spacious and attractive setting for this day of music. It’s another free family event for the people of Medway to enjoy.” The Festival of Music currently includes the Castle Concerts, Under Siege and new for this year, Classical Under Siege.
