Muslims are speaking out against terrorist groups Where are the Moderate Muslims? There arent moderate Muslims. There are Muslims and then there are a small number of people who wield terror who call themselves Muslim. Second, the objections that the so-called moderate Muslims are not speaking out against the vile acts of groups like ISIS, who beheaded an American journalist and have been killing and wielding terror on Iraqis and Syrians for some time now, are nonsense. The condemnation of these groups and their unrelenting violence has been voiced by imams across the country and across the globe and by prominent U.S. Muslim organizations such as ISNA, CAIR, and MPAC and more locally, the Dialogue Institute of the Southwest. Their statements have been very strong and very public condemnations of the beliefs and actions of ISIS and groups like them. The fact that these public condemnations, along with the outstanding work they do for the public good, do not make news headlines is not the fault, nor the responsibility of Muslims. Muslims cannot be held responsible for the egregious wrongs of a minority who wield terror in the name of Islam or for the common narrative in the media which perpetuates the idea that Muslims are either violent or silent about the violence. Not only have Muslims been vocal in their condemnations of ISIS, they have also been victims of their violence. Crystal Silva-McCormick
