Mutua told to grab power from Kalonzo THE battle for political supremacy in Ukambani went a notch higher on Saturday. Politicians from the region turned the burial of former Machakos Town MP Daudi Mwanzia into a political forum. Lands Secretary Charity Ngilu, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and Senator Johnstone Muthama attended the burial at Kyumbi village in Mavoko constituency. Former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile set the tempo after he referred to Mutua as the second senior politician in Ukambani. Ngilu asked Mutua to grab power from Musyoka and lead the community. She said Mutua has showed his ability to perform and should therefore lead the region. Ngilu said Kalonzo and Muthama will not give Mutua power in a silver platter. She told Governor Mutua at the Presence of the former Vice president Kalonzo Musyoka and senator Muthama that power will not be given to him on a silver plate. “I want to tell you Governor Mutua that within a very short time you have been able to deliver what kalonzo and I could not for all this years and it is time you take over from us”, she said. Former Water Assistant Minister during Retired President Kibaki’s era Mutua Katuku told Kalonzo not to waste time fighting to reconcile Governor Mutua and Senator Muthama saying that the two should be left to be on the opposing sides. He said that the two were playing their constitutional role and therefore having them work together may compromise the development agenda of the County. At some point there was a protocol hitch on who should speak first between the Governor and the Senator but the MC former Yatta MP Charles Kilonzo played it smart by maintaining to go by age. At first when Kilonzo called Governor Mutua to speak, Mutua in hesitation demanded that Senator Daniel Karaba of kirinyanga speaks first so that his Counterpart Senator Muthama follows. It was at this time when Kilonzo admitted that he had a problem with protocol but chose to do it his style insisting that Governor Mutua Speaks first since he his younger that senator Muthama. In his speech Governor Mutua avoided speaking of politics saying that he would want to focus on development issues and not politicking. When Senator Muthama spoke he dispelled Kalembe Ndile’s remarks that Governor Mutua was number two to Kalonzo Musyoka in the region. “You cannot compare an elephant with a rat”, posed Muthama. He said that he was concentrating on National politics and was not interested in the regions petty politics but will stand to always speak for the truth.
